Native to the southwestern United States, this dense, evergreen grass forms clumps of upright foliage, to 2 ft tall, with late summer-early fall flowers of white turning brown standing above on stems to 3.5 ft tall. A nice presence in the small, dry garden. Requires full sun and well-drained soil. Needs little summer water once established but tolerates irrigation with very good drainage. Frost hardy to 0F, USDA zone 7.
