The Story

Robust, clump-forming perennial, these being native to the high elevation grasslands of the Pisa Range in New Zealand. Rosettes reach up to 3 ft x 3 ft, forming tussocks over time, and when mature, produce 2-3 ft tall flower spikes, with spiny bracts producing creamy yellow flowers. Said to be deer resistant. Best in average, well-draining soil, evenly moist to dry, with full to part sun. Prefers afternoon shade in the hottest summer climes. Hardy to USDA zone 7.
