Higher elevation form of interior live oak, this denizen of chaparral rocky spots and sometimes open woodlands reaches about 15-20 feet in height x 10-15 but can easily be trained to a single trunk. Stiffly-toothed juvenile leaves mature to smoother entire leaves in time. Perfect small garden or street tree with dark glossy evergreen foliage and a somewhat divaricating branch pattern. One of the more easily transplantable of our native oaks. Excellent in urban situations. full sun to dappled shade, very summer drought adapted. USDA zone 7
