The Story

Somewhat elusive large shrub from the interior Southwest, this form having some characteristics of M. fremontii. Rounded shrub slowly to 8 to 10 ft. Shreddy bark with 4 to 5 inch leaves divided into several jade-blue leaflets. Yellow clusters of flowers in abundance from late winter to mid spring contrast nicely with the leaf color. Pinky-blue clusters of berries follow. Superb addition to the low water garden being extremely heat and drought adapted once established. Provide occasional summer monsoon where none occurs on its own. For full sun to lightly dappled shade and well drained nutrient poor soils. USDA zone 6 if not colder.
