The Story

California bay or Oregon myrtle, these represent or highest collection at over 6300' in the Sierra Nevadas Yuba Gap, an area subjected to cold winds and driving snows, where the infamous Donner party met its fate. Though ginormous in habitat, in the garden they grow to attractive gum drop-shaped 25 to 30 ft. the evergreen leaves upheld showing bluish undersides. Excellent urban garden tree in bright light or dappled shade. USDA zone 6 possibly colder.
