From one of the most beautiful species in the genus these multi generations later from particularly purple mottled plants along Oregon's Rogue river. 12 to 18" in height emerging midwinter and flowering anywhere from the end of February into April. 3 petaled maroon flowers resting on wide leaves blotched silver light green, and dark purple. Not fussy about soil, loves dappled shade often found growing on the edge of redwood into oak meadows.
