The Story
One of the most beautifully colored forms of the frost hardy cacti, a hybrid cross between O. santa-rita and O. basilaris. A compact prickly pear to 2 1/2 ft, with pads to 3-4" that emerge blue-green and then develop a purple flush -- in this case a natural occurrence that doesn't indicate a lack of fertilizer. In late spring, hot-pink, ruffled flowers add to the palette. A hybrid cross between O. santa-rita and O. basilaris, Full sun with sharp drainage. Frost hardy to -10F, USDA zone 6. Great in containers.
