The Story
From the northernmost zone of its occurrence on the Nevada-Utah border, this short shrubby and oh-so-cute dwarf cholla grows to about 18 inches in tall and a little wider with glowing golden spines and chartreuse yellow flowers mid spring. Easy to grow in full sun, mineral soil, and a little summer water where no rain falls. USDA zone 5b.
Also known as Cylindropuntia whipplei.
