The Story

Another of the numerous and wonderful myrtoids of southern and central western Chile, this form, collected as a single clone on a 2002 excursion with Mike Remmick, comes from a densely pyramidal plant, about 15 ft in height, with lovely, bracketed rows of 1/4" narrow leaves, abundant white flowers followed by minty, black-blue fruit in fall, and bark that is a jigsaw puzzle of orange, cream, and brown.  In captivity our plants have remained wonderfully formed, promising a great new addition in accommodating climates.  Though found in rather swampy conditions, this creature is somewhat drought tolerant and even made a bit more frost hardy by a little summer stress.  Shade tolerant, though a more compact, handsome plant in brighter light.  Easily lifted to single or multi-trunked, small trees, or clipped as hedge.  In areas subject to hard, early or late season frosts, provide some overhead protection such as eaves or evergreen trees.  Mid USDA zone 8.
