The Story
A favorite slow growing succulent, wavy-edged ridges line upright rounded stalks. Older specimens may reach up to 4ft, but 12-18" is more common. Offsets form at the base forming dense colonies over time. Small deep red bracts surround tiny rayless flowers in summer. Full sun and gritty well drained soil. Keep winter dry and only water when the soil is completely dry. Avoid overly wet saturated soil at any time of year. Orange brown spines are remnant flower stalks USDA 9b if extremely dry. Excellent houseplant for a sunny south or west facing window. Protect from hard frost.
