Tolerant of dry shade as with many epimediums, this form is a cross between E. alpinum and E. grandiflorum. To 8-12" tall and forming clumps to 1-2ft wide, these herbaceous perennials have heart-shaped leaves that emerged tinged in red and mature to green, turning reddish again before dropping. Spring flowers too are reddish, standing above the foliage on thin stems. These prefer rich soil and even moisture in part to full shade but tolerant drought once established. Frost hardy to -20F, USDA zone 5.
