The Story

Shared with us by Christopher Lloyd as his dwarf cardoon which turned out to be the hugest we had grown. Rewarding in the dry border where purple artichoke/thistle flowers wave 8-10ft above the ground. Large, ornamental, spiny leaves to 6ft or taller, silver-green and finely cut. Leaf stalks are edible as well as the nascent buds. Best and biggest in rich soil, well-drained with occasional summer water where dry. Nearly evergreen in USDA zone 8; resprouts in zone 7.
