From the high barren region on the coast of Mendocino county, this species is distinguished from its close relative, C. goveniana, by its thin black seeds and lemon scented foliage. The species name is a bit of a misnomer in that these plants will be "pygmy" in very poor soil; vigorous to about 40 ft. tall x 15 ft. eventually in cultivation. Full sun and well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established. Frost hardy to 10F, USDA zone 8.
