Given to us nearly 20 years ago by the late, great plantsman of the same name, not Mr. Aspidistra, but Mr. Hammer, this 3ft, fairly rapidly clumping with deep green leaves and plentiful green polka dots has a particularly stout feel, making it not only stand up well in the garden, but for us also a bit more snail resistant, not that we have them, of course. For dappled to full shade. Though tolerant of dry conditions, growth is more rapid with more summer moisture. Particularly tough into USDA zone 7.
