We'd like to say this is a result of endless years of research, however it's just a happy accident. Seed collected from silver oaks, (the first in Portland) from NE 11th AVE, with a friendly red oak caller from down the block, producing an interesting cross with larger serrate leaves, light colored on the undersides but with autumn color often late December and January, old leaves dropping as new appear in spring. These have great potential for added winter color mostly given by sweet gums in present day Portland. To and upright 40-60 ft. Sun and periodic summer water. USDA zone 6 if not lower.
