Big cone fir, a most unusual and our only other N. American "Douglas Fir', from the transverse ranges of central and southern California. This collection from Figuroa Peak by friend of Cistus Julian Lawrence, appearing almost to be the artificial trees one might put in a model railroad, growing out of the associated chaparral of woody dryland shrubs. Broadly conical to 50' with 1 to 2 inch needles and indeed, particularly large cones. Excellent for the dry garden and always a conversation piece. Full sun USDA zone 7 possibly 6.
