Elaeagnus pungens ‘Glen St. Mary'

A compact form of a very useful shrub. With all the decorative attributes of its bigger relative, a densely branched habit, 3" leaves of glossy metallic green and coppery indumentum on stems and undersides -- but in a smaller form to only 4-6ft tall and wide. The tiny flowers in winter and spring (sometimes autumn), are also coppery with a delightfully spicy cinnamon fragrance that carries on the breeze. Useful for containers, as a specimen or as a low hedge, where the beautiful leaves can be seen up close. Able to withstand significant summer drought as well as salt spray. Full sun to nearly full shade with average soil. Frost hardy in USDA zone 7 with good drainage.
